This scan usually looks at why your thyroid gland is overactive.
How do I prepare for a Thyroid Scan?
There are no preparations. Please let our staff know if you are taking any multivitamins or medications for your thyroid. Please also inform us if you had any scans that involved an injection or a drink of contrast in the 6 weeks prior to your appointment.
What happens during a Thyroid Scan?
You will be given a small injection of a radioactive tracer and will be asked to wait at reception for 10 minutes for the isotope to be taken up by the thyroid gland. We will then take pictures of your neck for20-25 minutes.
Are there any side effects of a Thyroid Scan?
No
How long does a Thyroid Scan take?
45 minutes.
When can I expect the results of my Thyroid Scan?
Results are usually ready the next day.
