A colon transit study is used to evaluate constipation.
How do I prepare for a Colon Transit Study?
Fasting from midnight and stopping any laxatives for 3 days prior to your appointment as well as throughout the week of your scan.
What happens during a Colon Transit Study?
You will be asked to come in on a Monday (usually around 9am) and will be asked to drink 1 cup of water which has a radiotracer in it. Once you have had the drink, you will be asked to go home and do everything as normal and come back in the afternoon for a 10-minute picture. You will then be asked to come back every day of that week (Tues-Fri) in the morning for a 10-minute picture.

Results will be ready the week after your scan.
