What is a Gallium Scan?

A gallium scan is used to look for areas of inflammation
or infection.

How do I prepare for a Gallium Scan?

There are no preparations for this scan, you can eat and drink and work as per normal.

What happens during a Gallium Scan?

You will be injected with a radioactive material and you will be asked to return 48hrs later for images. We will then take pictures for 1.5 hrs.

Are there any side effects?

No

How long does a Gallium Scan take?

The injection will take about 10minutes. You will then return to our practice 48hrs later for pictures which will take about 1.5hrs.

When can I expect the results of my Gallium Scan?

Results are usually ready the next day.

Will there be any fees involved?

No, all our scans are bulk billed.
